James RiverWelcome to Richmond, VA
The city of Richmond, which lies along the beautiful James River, is the capital of Virginia.

Richmond's origins date back to 1607 when the English formed their second successful settlement in Richmond. The city’s rich history has played a pivotal role in the foundation of the United States. During the Revolutionary War, Patrick Henry proclaimed, “Give me liberty, or give me death!” from the pulpit at St. Johns Church. Likewise, Richmond was home to the Confederacy during the Civil War.

Learn All About RichmondSince that time, Richmond and its citizens have continued to grow. Today, Richmond is the third largest metropolitan area in the state of Virginia. The city consists of a diverse population that has contributed to Richmond’s unique and vibrant culture. This diversity can easily be seen in the many entertainment and dining venues scattered throughout the city.

The city of Richmond remains attractive to both families and single individuals. Richmond has multiple neighborhoods across the city and surrounding areas that provide relatively inexpensive real estate opportunities to either own or rent. The city is also home to National Folk Festivalmultiple institutions of higher education, including Virginia Commonwealth University, as well as numerous quality public and private primary and secondary schools. Richmond’s strong and diverse economy provides plentiful opportunities for employment for spouses of residents brought to the area.

Richmond plays host to multiple concerts and festivals throughout the year. The city’s park system is one the largest in the country and provides a wonderful opportunity to enjoy the outdoors in the middle of the city. Whether you enjoy running, hiking, mountain bike riding or river rafting, Richmond and the surrounding areas can keep you entertained. For those who require a little more for excitement, there are several theme and water parks in the area to keep both the adults and children happy. Richmond is also home to several museums and historical monuments, as well as several professional sports.

For those who like day trips, Richmond is ideally located within driving distance from nearby cities such as Washington, DC to the north, and southeast to Colonial Williamsburg and Virginia Beach. Driving west, a quick trip to the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains and the legendary Shenandoah Valley provide the perfect escape to rural Virginia.
