MESSAGE FROM THE PROGRAM DIRECTOR

Jay Shapiro, MDWelcome to the Education Division and thank you for your interest in our Residency Program.

The Department of Anesthesiology is proud to offer a fully accredited, 4 year program in Anesthesiology Training. Our Residents begin their training by completing an ABA approved Clinical Base Year, followed by three years of Clinical Anesthesiology, with options for a fourth clinical or basic science year.

We aim to provide an outstanding environment for both academic as well as clinical anesthesia training designed to educate outstanding Consultants in Anesthesiology as defined by the American Board of Anesthesiology. We are able to provide this thanks, in part, to a strong clinical setting, along with a dedicated, diverse faculty in all the general and sub-specialty areas of Anesthesiology.

PACUIn addition to the standard training dictated by the ACGME, the Department also offers rotations in community-based practice, as well as an opportunity to participate in medical missions in third-world countries. Residents are also invited and encouraged to participate in presentations at Regional and National Anesthesiology Meetings as well as Subspecialty Meetings. We also currently offer Fellowship Training in Cardiac Anesthesiology (including extensive TEE training) and participate in the Institution’s Multidisciplinary Pain Fellowship.

The Program currently “turns out” highly qualified Anesthesiology Physicians who move on to practice in a variety of settings including Private Practice, Academic Medicine, and further Fellowship Training, in Groups and Programs throughout the country. Please browse this site’s pages regarding the Program and admission requirements.

We will be happy to Dr. Jay Shapiroanswer any further questions you may have concerning our Program, positions, or the application process.
